Description
A low-carb, light, and flavorful turkey lettuce wrap taco recipe featuring juicy spiced ground turkey and a creamy avocado drizzle. Perfect for quick, healthy dinners that are family-friendly and easy to customize.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) lean ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 large head romaine lettuce leaves
- 1 large ripe avocado
- 1/4 cup (60ml) Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) lime juice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon)
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
- A handful fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
- Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, sliced jalapeños, shredded cheese (cheddar, cotija, or pepper jack), grilled street corn
Instructions
- Prep your ingredients: mince garlic and chop cilantro. Slice and separate the lettuce leaves, choosing the biggest and most intact for wraps.
- Make the avocado drizzle: scoop out avocado into a bowl, add Greek yogurt, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Mash together until smooth and creamy. Chill in the fridge.
- Cook the turkey: heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and break apart with a spatula.
- Sprinkle chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper evenly over the turkey. Stir well to coat.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until turkey is browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Add a splash of water or broth if pan gets dry.
- Assemble the wraps: lay out romaine leaves and spoon a generous amount of spiced turkey into each.
- Drizzle with creamy avocado sauce and sprinkle chopped cilantro on top.
- Add optional toppings like diced tomatoes or jalapeños if desired.
- Serve immediately while turkey is warm and lettuce is crisp.
Notes
Use fresh spices for best flavor. Do not overcook turkey to keep it moist. Choose sturdy romaine leaves to avoid tearing. Chill avocado drizzle for 30 minutes before serving for better flavor. Assemble wraps just before eating to prevent sogginess. Thin avocado drizzle with water or lime juice if too thick. Customize spice level with jalapeños or cayenne. Store turkey and avocado sauce separately; do not freeze avocado drizzle.
