Description

A quick and fresh appetizer featuring creamy mozzarella, juicy cherry tomatoes, and fragrant basil, drizzled with tangy balsamic glaze. Ready in just 10 minutes with minimal ingredients and no cooking required.


Ingredients

  • 1 pint fresh mozzarella balls (about 8 oz / 225g), small bocconcini or ciliegine
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes (about 10 oz / 280g)
  • About 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 23 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • About 20 wooden or bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves. If tomatoes are large, slice them in half. Drain the fresh mozzarella balls and pat all ingredients dry with paper towels.
  2. Take a skewer and thread one tomato, followed by a folded basil leaf, then a mozzarella ball. Repeat until the skewer is full, usually 3-4 pieces per skewer.
  3. Arrange the finished skewers on a serving platter. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze. Sprinkle lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours. Bring to room temperature before serving for best flavor.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality mozzarella for best flavor and texture. Pat ingredients dry to prevent soggy skewers. Assemble just before serving to keep basil fresh. Optional add-ins include prosciutto, olives, or pesto drizzle. Not recommended to reheat; serve cold or at room temperature.
