Ingredients
Scale
- 6 large garlic cloves
- ½ cup (120 ml) extra virgin olive oil
- 1–2 teaspoons red chili flakes
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Peel 6 large garlic cloves and crush them with a garlic press or finely grate them to a smooth, paste-like consistency.
- In a small bowl, whisk together ½ cup (120 ml) extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce or tamari, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar, and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) honey or maple syrup.
- Stir in the crushed garlic, 1-2 teaspoons red chili flakes (to taste), and ½ teaspoon salt. Whisk until smooth and glossy.
- Squeeze in 1 teaspoon (5 ml) fresh lemon juice and whisk again. Taste and adjust salt or chili flakes as desired.
- Optional: Let the sauce rest at room temperature for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
- Use immediately as a drizzle or transfer to a jar and refrigerate for up to one week. Shake well before each use.
Notes
For vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave. If sauce thickens in fridge, stir in warm water or olive oil to loosen. Letting sauce rest for 10 minutes enhances flavor. Use good quality olive oil for best taste.
