This recipe delivers juicy, flavorful air fryer hamburgers with perfectly melted cheese and tangy pickles, all made quickly and easily indoors without a grill.

- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
- 4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche or potato buns)
- ½ cup dill pickle slices
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, ketchup, mustard, mayo
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz / 115g each). Shape each into a round patty about ¾ inch thick, pressing a slight dent in the center with your thumb.
- Season both sides of the patties evenly with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Place the patties in the air fryer basket in a single layer without touching. Cook for 5 minutes, then flip carefully with tongs and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Lay a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Spread softened butter on the cut sides of the buns and place them butter side up in the air fryer basket. Toast for 2-3 minutes until golden and slightly crispy.
- Assemble the burgers by layering the patty on the bottom bun, adding dill pickle slices and any additional toppings, then topping with the other bun and pressing lightly.
Notes
Do not overwork the meat to keep patties tender. Pat patties dry before cooking for better browning. Use a meat thermometer to ensure internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Let burgers rest 5 minutes after cooking. Toast buns with butter for added flavor and to prevent sogginess. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.
