Description
This recipe delivers perfectly crispy, caramelized air fryer plantains that are sweet, tender, and easy to make without deep frying. A quick and versatile side dish with minimal mess.
Ingredients
- 2 large ripe plantains (yellow with lots of black spots)
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil (avocado oil, olive oil, or coconut oil)
- Pinch of sea salt
- Optional: sprinkle of cinnamon or chili powder
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.
- Peel and slice the plantains diagonally into ½-inch thick pieces.
- Toss the plantain slices in a mixing bowl with 2 tablespoons of oil and a pinch of sea salt until evenly coated.
- Arrange the plantains in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 8 minutes.
- Flip the plantains using tongs and air fry for another 5-7 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
- Remove from the air fryer and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use ripe plantains that are mostly black with some yellow spots for best sweetness and caramelization. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to avoid steaming. Flip plantains halfway through cooking for even browning. Let plantains cool slightly to crisp up further. Optional seasonings like cinnamon, chili powder, or smoked paprika can be added for flavor variations.
