Description
Tender ground beef cooked in a rich, smoky sauce, piled high on a soft, buttery bun for the ultimate comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Dash of hot sauce (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns (preferably brioche)
- 2 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
- Cheese slices (optional, sharp cheddar, American, or Swiss)
- Optional toppings: sliced pickles, diced onions, shredded lettuce, tomato slices
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula as it browns. Season with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease.
- Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Lower the heat to medium and stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and hot sauce (if using). Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
- Melt butter in a separate skillet or griddle over medium heat. Toast the buns until golden brown.
- Spoon the sloppy joe filling onto the bottom bun, top with cheese (if using), and add your favorite toppings. Place the top bun and serve immediately.
