  • Author: Nora Winslow
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A gourmet pub-style burger featuring juicy beef patties, crispy bacon, melty cheddar, and a rich whiskey sauce. Perfect for a backyard BBQ or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 strips bacon
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Irish whiskey
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp butter (for whiskey sauce)

Instructions

  1. Slice buns, cheddar, and any additional toppings. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 4 patties with a small dimple in the center of each.
  3. Heat skillet over medium heat and cook bacon until crispy. Set aside on paper towels.
  4. In the same skillet, cook patties on medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side. Add cheese slices during the last minute to melt.
  5. Spread butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them in the skillet until golden brown.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Stir in whiskey, heavy cream, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
  7. Assemble the burgers: Place the patty with melted cheese on the bottom bun, add crispy bacon, drizzle whiskey sauce generously, and add any additional toppings. Finish with the top bun.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

[‘Handle the beef gently when forming patties to avoid toughness.’, ‘Chill patties in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before cooking to help them hold their shape.’, ‘Use a hot skillet for a beautiful crust on the patties.’, ‘Let the whiskey sauce simmer and thicken for the best flavor.’, ‘Experiment with toppings like sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, or a fried egg.’]
