Description
These mini grilled cheese sandwiches on sweet Hawaiian rolls are quick to make, kid and adult approved, and perfect for game day snacks or any casual gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12-count Hawaiian rolls (slider buns)
- 8–12 slices cheese (American, sharp cheddar, or pepper jack recommended)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- Optional extras:
- Ham or turkey slices (thinly sliced)
- Mustard or mayo (Dijon mustard recommended)
- Garlic powder or dried herbs
- Pickles or jalapeños
Instructions
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping tops and bottoms together as pairs. If using ham or mustard, spread them on the bottom halves now.
- Spread softened butter evenly on the outside of the top and bottom buns. Optionally, mix garlic powder or dried herbs into the butter before spreading.
- Place a slice of cheese (or folded half slice if large) on the bottom half of each roll. Add ham or turkey if using, then top with the other half of the roll.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat until hot.
- Place the sandwiches butter-side down on the skillet. Press down lightly with a spatula or pan press. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes, then flip and cook the other side until cheese is melted and bread is golden.
- Transfer the grilled cheese minis to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any extra butter. Let rest for 1 minute before serving.
Notes
Use softened butter for easy spreading and a golden crust. Keep heat medium to low to avoid burning butter before cheese melts. Do not overcrowd the pan for even toasting. You can assemble ahead and refrigerate or freeze ungrilled sandwiches for later grilling.
