Description
A quick and easy Korean-inspired beef bowl recipe with bold flavors, perfect for busy weeknights and ready in just 20 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (or to taste)
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 2–3 green onions, sliced
- Optional toppings: sesame seeds, shredded carrots, steamed broccoli, fried egg
Instructions
- Cook the rice according to package instructions if not already prepared.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess grease if needed.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and pour the sauce over the cooked beef. Stir well to coat the meat evenly. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Divide the cooked rice into serving bowls. Spoon the saucy beef over the rice and top with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and any other toppings you like. Serve immediately.
Notes
[‘Don’t skip the sugar as it balances the saltiness of the soy sauce.’, ‘Fresh garlic and ginger enhance the flavor significantly.’, ‘Avoid overcooking the sauce to maintain its balance.’, ‘The beef reheats well, making it great for meal prep.’]
