Description
This decadent homemade chocolate cake recipe is perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary, or just because you deserve a treat! It’s simpler than you think and delivers rich, velvety goodness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans to prevent sticking.
- In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients: eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—it’s okay if there are a few lumps!
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, prepare your favorite frosting! A classic buttercream or cream cheese frosting pairs beautifully with this cake.
Notes
Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature before mixing; this will help them blend more smoothly. Don’t skip the cooling process!
