Description
Rich, fudgy brownies with a festive peppermint flavor and crushed candy cane topping—perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in 20-second intervals until completely melted. Let it cool slightly.
- Whisk the melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract together in a large bowl until smooth and glossy, about 1 minute.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- As soon as the brownies come out of the oven, sprinkle the crushed candy canes on top and press them lightly into the surface.
- Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before slicing.
