Description

A hearty and comforting hamburger steak bake that combines ground beef, onions, and a rich savory sauce, ready in just 30 minutes. Perfect for easy family dinners with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced (about 200g)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth (360ml)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter (30g)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 ounces egg noodles (225g)
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente (usually 7-9 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. While the noodles cook, heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer beef to a bowl and set aside, leaving drippings in the pan.
  3. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Add diced onion and cook over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle flour over onions and garlic, stirring constantly to coat evenly. Cook for about 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.
  5. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping browned bits from the pan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Return browned beef to the skillet and stir into the gravy. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Fold in drained egg noodles, tossing gently until coated in sauce.
  8. Serve directly from skillet or transfer to a baking dish to keep warm. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

[‘Do not skip browning the beef to add flavor and texture.’, ‘Use fresh garlic for best flavor.’, ‘Let the gravy simmer long enough to thicken before adding beef back in.’, ‘Salt pasta water well to season noodles internally.’, ‘Make the beef and gravy mixture ahead and cook noodles fresh for meal prep.’, ‘Reheat leftovers gently with broth or water to loosen sauce; avoid microwaving straight from fridge without loosening sauce.’, “This dish does not freeze well due to gravy’s dairy content.”]
