Description

This Amazing Salted Caramel Cake features rich, moist layers of vanilla cake combined with a luscious salted caramel filling and frosting, making it the perfect birthday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease your cake pans with butter and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add the sugar mixture, beating until fluffy.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Alternately add the dry ingredients and whole milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and level it out.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar over medium heat until melted and amber in color.
  11. Carefully add the heavy cream and sea salt to the caramel, stirring until smooth and letting it cool.
  12. Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a layer of salted caramel on top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake with buttercream frosting, drizzling extra salted caramel on top.
  13. Add sea salt flakes on top for decoration, slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Watch the caramel closely to prevent burning.
